Installed for 15 years in the district St Louis near the castle, I take over the restoration of your furniture, massive or veneered and seats for the wood part. The Rue du Vieux Versailles welcomes many restorers to the complementary activities, allowing you to concentrate your efforts and facilitate the dialogue between the speakers. I have been a furniture restorer for 30 years. I have been self-employed since 2000 after being employed for 18 years including 13 years at the Centre for research and restoration of the museums of France, the Louvre museum and the Petit Stables du Roi in Versailles.

I specialized in marquetry and I was awarded the competition "Un des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France" en 1994.
You are looking for a professional to restore your furniture, I propose :
  1. A thorough examination of your furniture at your home or at the workshop
  2. A detailed quotation according to your wishes and my diagnosis
  3. A schedule of support for the removal and delivery Transportation of your furniture to my workshop
  4. The presentation during your passages to the workshop of the stages of restoration
In parallel with my activity, I have followed numerous courses of improvement in cabinetmaking and marquetry at the Boule school, in conservation-restoration at the National Heritage Institute and at the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne.
In 2003, I obtained the authorisation of the museums of France, which allows me to work for the major national museums, the Château de Versailles, Compiègne, Malmaison, the Museum of the Château de Pau, the Musée d'orsay, the national furniture...

I am now exploring the wood turnage, solid wood and segmented elements.
Restoration
After one or two centuries of use, the furniture has generally undergone restorations or repairs, the functional part of the objects has often been privileged sometimes at the expense of aestheticism. The state report and the diagnosis make it possible to better understand the work to be considered and to define the priorities. Should the furniture be kept "in its juice" or devarnished and refinished to give a good readability to the wood; Return to working condition or only stabilize the object. It depends on its condition, its appearance, the use that will be made of it and its future environment.

Marquetery
Marquetry is a decoration made with veneers of wood and various other materials, carved according to a drawing and glued on a support (furniture, woodwork, or table), especially in cabinet making. The images thus obtained can be geometric (one speaks then of curling), figurative or abstract. By extension, this term refers to the technique and the craft that make this specific décor. I realize paintings rather figurative according to drawings or photographs. Also decorations on the keys and tailpieces of Viola da gamba in collaboration with Luthiers.

Wood turning
The filming consists of putting a piece of wood in rotation on a lathe and giving shape with various gouges. The piece of wood can be held at both ends, said "Between points", to create table legs, balusters for example. When the piece of wood is fixed by a mandrel at one end, we talk about turning in the air, which allows to dig bowls, vases...

Advice
Vous possédez ou vous venez d’hériter de meubles et objets anciens, sachez que vous êtes les premiers acteurs de la bonne conservation de vos objets.
The climate environment
The climatic environment plays a decisive role, essentially the humidity of the air. Winter is the critical period, you need to heat your home and therefore you lower the humidity level. Wood is a material of the substance and absorbs or rejects water vapour to balance with the ambient atmosphere, resulting in dimensional variations. If the humidity is too high, the wood will inflate and deform in the brackets, on the contrary if the humidity level drops below 30%, the wood will shrink and crack. Water-based animal adhesives will also be dehydrated and lose their flexibility, delamination and veneer loss. It is therefore necessary to avoid abrupt changes in humidity and maintain a rate between 40 and 60%. Air-drying can be compensated by water saturators on radiators or air humidifiers !
The use
Daily use requires wear, does not overload the drawers of the dresser, the funds are often weakened. If the slides and drawer sides are worn, the friction of the facades can cause splinters on the cross veneers !
The light
Light is also a factor of degradation, if the rays of the sun come directly hitting the veneers, the ultraviolet bleaches the wood and varnish, they also dry the glue and promote the elevations of veneers. So keep your furniture away from the glass windows!
Xylophagous Insects
Xylophagous insect attacks also create irreversible damage by weakening the structures and can cause the rupture of feet and ties, especially on seats. The presence of airborne holes with sharp, clear edges and small piles of vermoulures at the foot of the furniture are characteristic of an active infestation. Treatment is necessary to prevent this contamination from spreading to other objects. This treatment can be done by injection of xylophènes.
